Torpedo Corps

Torpedo Corps

The Tasmanian Torpedo Corps formed part of the colony’s coastal defences in the late 19th century, operating submarine mining and torpedo defences to protect the Derwent and Tamar estuaries.

The Corps represents one of the earliest expressions of military engineering in Tasmania and a direct forebear of the modern Royal Australian Engineers.
